Fighting will break out. We gave you less food on purpose to make you all fight each other. Weeding out the weaklings before the next game begins.

A soldier informing Byeong-gi about the Special Game in "Stick to the Team"

The Special Game, also known as Lights Out, was a bonus game that happened between Games 2 and 3, taking place in the lobby. Though not part of the six game line-up, this was a planned event of the staff to "weed out the weakest".

The Special Game occurred again in the 37th Squid Game.

Game information[]

The game started during the lights out by Player 101 by stabbing Player 198, because she snitched on 101 and his gang for cutting the line for seconds. Soon, a fight begins to break out. As the fight continued, the lights started to flicker.

The game ended when Oh Il-nam couldn't take it anymore and climbed on top of one of the highest beds and demanded things to stop. The lights then turned back to normal and soldiers started shooting on the ceiling to stop the brawling.

Player techniques[]

Since this game was a free-for-all and there were no rules, players had many ways to survive or eliminate each other.

  • Kang Sae-byeok used a pocket knife she smuggled in.
  • Jang Deok-su stabbed players with his broken bottle, and several other players used them as weapons as well.
  • Numerous players used metal bars taken from the bunk bed frames as weapons and toppled beds over in order to kill or injure players on or near them.
  • Naked hands can also be used, as Player 224 snapped Player 328's neck and killed him.
  • Players used jackets, bedsheets, and pillows to strangle or smother one another to death.
  • Some participants such as Oh Il-nam either climbed to higher bunks or hid underneath beds and other structures in order to avoid being killed.

Players eliminated[]

Mistakes[]

  • In the Korean version, Player 198's elimination was announced twice. One of them meant to be Player 444's death.
  • Although Player 277 was killed in the special game, he was seen alive after it ended.
  • Player 097's icon fades after the special game ends, even though he died during Red Light, Green Light.
  • The icons of Players 012, 025, 036, 048, 049, 051, 073, 075, 080, 097, 205, 207, 211, 349 and 372 also blacked out, most likely indicating their death; although it is unconfirmed as their eliminations weren't announced and it exceeds the ammount of killed players. Their corpses are also nowhere to be seen.
  • Although the death count for the brawl is 27, over 27 players seem to have been eliminated.
  • It seems more than 100 players survived after the special game and made it into Tug of War. This is likely a continuity error, as it was announced only 80 players actually survived.
