Season 3 of Squid Game is preceded by Season 2. It is the final season of the series. This season consists of six episodes. It premiered on June 27, 2025.[1] It served as a direct sequel to Season 2.[2] The budget for this season was ₩100 billion (approximately $68,620,000 USD).[3]

Plot[]

this season, Seong Gi-hun and the remaining players fight for survival in ever-deadlier games. In-ho welcomes the VIPs. his brother Jun-ho and his team continues to search for the island, unaware of a traitor in their midst. The games featured this season are: Hide and Seek, Jump Rope and Sky Squid Game.

On January 3, 2025, series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk teased some progress of the third season, which was renewed and filmed back-to-back with Season 2. He further went onto say that he "wrote seasons two and three back-to-back, we filmed them back-to-back, and it’s currently in post. It’s going to arrive sometime in 2025".[4]

On January 31, 2025, Netflix released a preview sizzle reel for its 2025 programming slate, and some promotional images for the season were also released.[5]

On January 26, 2025, while speaking with GogglerMY, Kang Ae-shim confirmed Seasons 2 and 3 were filmed back-to-back; her co-star Yang Dong-geun added that their scenes took six months to complete. The actors filmed most of their scenes together, and Yang mused that was challenging for him.[6]

On February 1, 2025 Hwang Dong-hyuk mentioned that Thanos' presence will be felt this season.[7]

On February 4, 2025 the return of The VIPs was teased.[8]

On February 8, 2025 Wi Ha-joon acknowledged that audiences may have been disappointed with his lack of screen time in the second season , but promised that it was all part of a longer and bigger story stating: "I do understand that, from the audience's point of view, it might have been disappointing. But from my perspective, I know this is part of the longer and bigger story, so I wasn’t disappointed at all. This season will resolve many of Hwang Jun-ho's storylines, along with portraying "different aspects" of his character.[9]

On May 5, 2025 Netflix released an official teaser of Season 3, confirming a release for June 27th, 2025 as well as giving several new shots of the season.

During the Tudum event on May 31, 2025, the official trailer for Season 3 was shown. Netflix soon released the official trailer on YouTube.

On June 7, 2025, Netflix released an exclusive clip of Season 3 from the first episode. It takes place immediately after the failed revolt, showing Gi-hun desperately begging the Guards to kill him instead of sparing his life.

On June 13th, 2025, Netflix released a final trailer of Squid Game season 3, Featuring Gi-hun's final journey to end the game.

Trivia[]

  • On January 3rd, 2025 a promotional teaser was released by Netflix, but there was a potential slip-up; where after showing Young-hee and her newly introduced partner Cheol-su, a June 27, 2025 release date was shown. However, this information, along with the teaser itself, quickly disappeared from Netflix Korea's YouTube channel.[10] This was later confirmed in the official Teaser Trailer of Season 3.
  • Some of the posters are similar: Showing a worker dragging an eliminated player. Season 1 shows the Squid Game field, Season 2 shows the pentathlon arena, and Season 3 shows a "Floral ground", with Young-hee and Cheol-su's shadows can be seen.
  • Hwang Dong-hyuk will make a cameo as a minor character in Season 3, which was revealed to be one of the caricature artists working at Seoul Land in the final episode.[11]
  • Released officially, Netflix posted the 35 stills for the Season 3, here are the 5 stills of Season 3's First Look:
    • The first one shows Seong Gi-hun, being handcuffed to the bards of the bed, with Jang Geum-ja off-camera, while the updated prize money is being shown (The lights).
    • The second with Cho Hyun-ju, Kim Jun-hee, Jang Geum-ja, and Park Yong-sik with Team X watching, viewing a body in a Coffin, which is normally not allowed to the Players. It is revealed to be an unconscious Gi-hun, who soon wakes up from it.
    • The third one with Hwang In-ho in The Host's room, a sign that he returned to the room. His face is emotionless: He may be regretful of his actions.
    • The fourth with Kang No-eul in the island outside, a sign that she escaped. The island seems to be similar to the island where Jun-ho got captured.
    • The firth and last of the first look still, Hwang In-ho in the VIPs' room, a sign that The VIPs returned.
  • Series creator and director Dong-hyuk previously confirmed that Squid Game Season 3 is the ending of Gi-hun's story arc. However, he wasn't closing his door on the franchise. "Personally, I see the third season as being the finale to this story. That's because I believe I've had closure to the story I wanted to tell about society through the character of Seong Gi-hun"
  • The day before Season 3 released, Netflix leaked the first 5 minutes for the Keys and Knives episode as well as other clips in the trailers.
