Red Light, Green Light Sugar Honeycombs Tug of War Marbles Glass Stepping Stones Squid Game

Red Light, Green Light (무궁화 꽃이 피었습니다 Mugunghwa kkoci pieossseubnida?, translates to "The Mugunghwa blossoms bloomed") was the first game of the 33rd Squid Game held in 2020.

The goal of this game was for players to successfully reach the other end of an enclosed field, where Young-hee, a large robotic doll, was positioned, within the five-minute time limit. Players were permitted to move when the doll shouts, "Green light!", but if the doll shouts, "Red light!", players were to remain stationary while the doll scanned their movements. Any player caught moving will be eliminated and shot dead by a sniper.

Out of the 456 players who entered this game, 255 (or about 55.9211%) players who moved or didn't make it to the end in time were eliminated, and the remaining 201 (or about 44.0789%) players progressed to the sugar honeycomb

Trivia[]

  • In the Korean version, players are allowed to move while Young-hee says (무궁화 꽃이 피었습니다 Mugunghwa-kkochi Pieossseubnida?, "The hibiscus flower has bloomed."), which is the Korean version of Red Light, Green Light.
    • In the German dub of the episode the game is played differently, people can run while the doll sings "Red light, green light" and have to stop when she finishes singing. This is most likely a script error.
    • In the Japanese dub of the episode of the game, players are allowed to move while Young-hee says (だるまさんがころんだ Daruma-san ga koronda, "The Daruma Fell Down".) which is the Japanese version of Red Light, Green Light, and the iconic game show on Takeshi Castle's Blueberry Hill.
    • In the Brazilian dub of the episode, the doll sings "Batatinha frita, um, dois, três", which roughly translates from Portuguese to English as "French fries, one, two, three" to adapt over the language barriers. Brazilian authorities stated that the name was chosen due to "Batatinha frita, um, dois, três" being a real child game that was created in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
    • In the French dub of the episode, the doll says "Attention" and then sings "Un, deux, trois, soleil", which roughly translates to "One, two, three, sun".
    • In the Italian dub of the episode, the doll sings "Un, due, tre, stella!", which translates to "One, two, three, star".
    • In the Vietnamese dub of the episode, the doll sings "Một, hai, ba, bốn, năm, sáu, bảy, tám, chín, mười", which translates to "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten."
  • This is the only game where Han Mi-nyeo participates but isn't shown onscreen.
  • It is the same room being used during Squid Game, the final game in the series.
    • Unlike the aforementioned game, there are no windows for The VIPs to view the game.
  • It is said that the reason for this game being among the first throughout the series was that it had the ability to "make a lot of losers in one go", as shown with more than half of the competitors eliminated.
  • It is the game with the highest number of deaths in the entire series, with 255 players eliminated.
