Player 309 was a contestant who participated in the 33rd Squid Game in 2020, being eliminated after running out of time in the first game of the competition. He appears in the pilot episode Red Light, Green Light.
History[]
After accumulating large amounts of debt, Player 309 chose to enter a high-risk competition to win money, being picked up and sedated by Squid Game staff and taken to the island where the games take place. He then woke up in a large room with 455 other people and signed a contract and took his photo to enter the games.
Player 309 managed to survive the initial chaos that occurred in Red Light, Green Light as a result of Player 324's elimination and was able some progress significantly, though he was unable to reach the end before running out of time.
Death[]
He was only a few steps away from reaching the finish line, but the timer hit 0 before he could reach it. He hesitantly looked up at the doll, which fixated on and eliminated him, along with all the other players who did not cross the finish line on time.
Mistakes[]
- An older man with the 309 jumpsuit is shown when the staff is introducing the games. This is most likely a mistake on the set designer's part.
- Though Player 309 only died at the end of Red Light, Green Light, he was previously shown to have been eliminated in the initial chaos of the game, as his player icon was one of many that were blacked out on the grid of portraits in the control room.
- Player 309 is initially shown to be panicking, as he was shown running towards the doors during Kim In-hyeok’s death. He was also the first Player to break on the gates shortly after Player 186 gets shot.

- ↑ Given that Cho Sang-woo was dropped off in the early morning hours of June 11 after the first game ended, it can be assumed that Red Light, Green Light took place no later than June 9 or 10, as the 33rd Squid Game is known to have started soon after Seong Ga-yeong's birthday on June 8.
