Player 048 was a contestant of the 37th Squid Game.
Personality[]
While we didn't get much from Player 048, it's safe to assume he is quite a greedy individual, as he keeps voting O despite knowing it will cause the deaths of many players. He is also most likely the reason why Player 024 voted O, which makes him indirectly responsible for the death of Player 370. He is also ruthless enough to kill a hider,as he decided not to switch vests with someone in hide and seek. However, he is far from being evil and psychotic, as he did not participate in the special game and did not mock Gi-hun after the fallen rebellion. He also seems to care for his friend, Player 024. He also does not feel any hatred toward X players, as he can be seen comfortably talking with Player 080 before hide and seek. And while he decided to stay as a seeker, it increased his chances of surviving the fourth game.
History[]
Player 048 was in massive debt and decided to join the Squid Games for a chance to win a huge cash prize. He called the number on the recruiting card, and got into a mysterious car. He then woke up in a giant room with 454 other players. He then made his way to the center of the room and watched as many other players debts were revealed in front of him. Later on, he signed a contract and made his way up a flight of Stairs to the first game.
During Red Light, Green Light, Player 048, like most players, did not believe what Gi-hun said about getting shot and continued the game without any worry, Later he was soon terrified as players were shot in front of him during the mass panic. He was able to control himself and stand still. He eventually completed the first game after listening to Gi-hun's commands. After returning to the dormitory, many Players pleaded the guards to let them go. However, after a massive increase in the Prize money was revealed, Player 048 changed his mind and decided to vote O during the first vote. Him and the other Os then cheered after they won the vote.
Later during Six-Legged Pentathlon, Player 048 partnered up with Player 024, Player 019, An Dong-uk and Player 378. He played Gonggi for his team and managed to complete all 5 mini-games within the 5 minute timer. After successfully completing Six-Legged Pentathlon, him and the other players held another vote. He decided to vote O again along with many other O players.
Later on during Mingle, He managed to partner up with other players and passed all 5 rounds. After Mingle, him and the other remaining players returned to the Dormitory and had a third vote. Player 048 decided to vote O again along with many other O players . This vote ends up in a tie, meaning they will vote again in the morning. Player 048 and the other players seem disappointed and move back to their beds. After the events of the bathroom fight, him and the other Os have a headcount and figure out that they have less players compared to the Xs. The other Os then decide to ambush the Xs during the night to put them ahead. However, Player 048 decided to stay out of the fight and hide instead. Later on after the fight and Gi-hun's failed Rebellion, Player 048 voted O again during the morning vote. They end up winning the vote and continue the games further.
Later during Hide and Seek, Player 048 drew a red ball from the gumball machine, which confirmed his role as a Seeker. The manager later explains that him and his team would have to kill at least 1 hider in order to pass the game. Later when the guards allowed them to switch teams, He decided not to switch with a hider and kept his red vest. After the timer to hide finished, Player 048 and the others Seekers made their way into the maze. After making his way into the maze, Player 048 ran into the maze, ready to kill a Hider to pass the Game. Later on, Player 048 is seen watching Nam-gyu convince Lee Myung-gi to kill more Hiders before running off screen.
Fate[]
Player 048 did not kill any hiders in time, meaning he was shot to death by the Soldiers. He placed 33rd-26th along with the other failed Seekers who were killed off screen.
Trivia[]
- Player 048 and Park Yong-sik were the highest placing players that wore glasses. They both got eliminated by failing to kill a player in Hide and Seek.
- He only ever takes off his glasses during the second vote, meaning he could be nearsighted.
- He was one of the few men on Team O to have not attack any X voters during Special Game.
- His actor shares a name with one of the main characters from season 1, Byeong-gi, though Byeong-gi does not have a known family name, while 048's actor does.
- Players with the number 48 in their number died one by one in each game, except for the final game. Player 248 died in the first game, 148 died in the second game, 348 died during the night fight, 048 died in the fourth game, and 448 died in the fifth game.
- Of the recurring minor players from Season 2, he is the only one seen alive again after entering the maze, specifically when Nam-gyu talks to Myung-gi about killing more hiders.
- Player 048 is the only minor player with glasses who was seen in up to 4 different games.
- He is also the final player alive to wear glasses (as Park Yong-sik died before him).
- His best friend, Player 024, have his number equal to half of his number. Coincidentally, both are Team O's member and died in Hide-and-Seek.
- However, their role are opposite of each other: 024 is a Hider while 048 is a Seeker.
- He is the last player in the 04X range to be eliminated in the 37th squid games.
