Player 039, also known as Lunchbox, was a contestant of the 37^th Squid Game, as well as one of the finalists of the competition.

History[]

Player 039 was in large debt and decided to join the Squid Games. He woke up in a Dormitory along with 455 other players, then 039 proceeded to sign a contract and then took his photo. He survived the first 3 games, Red Light, Green Light, Six-Legged Pentathlon and Mingle and voted X. He survived the Special Game and did not participate in the Revolt. During the voting following the revolt, 039 changed his vote to O, possibly being under pressure after seeing what the O's did during the Special Game.

In Hide and Seek, 039 was a Seeker. He saw Cho Hyun-ju (Player 120) killing Player 202, but chose not to fight her. He killed an unknown player (most likely Player 344) off screen to pass the game. In Jump Rope, 039 passed the game and thus became one of the finalists. When he saw that the baby was another player, he said "We have to kill her! I can't let this happen!". He enjoyed the dinner, along with the other players. In the last round of Voting, when it was his turn to vote, Im Jeong-dae asked 039 if he really needed to vote, 039 nervously said that he was already going to vote O. He was a part of Im Jeong-dae's team for the final game.

Fate[]

In Sky Squid Game, his allies betrayed him, beat him up and deemed him a "Lunchbox" in order to throw him off in the final round. Although Seong Gi-hun (Player 456) and Lee Myung-gi (Player 333) killed all of his allies, 039 decides to fall to his death, despite Myung-gi's pleas, believing he'd be pushed off in the next round. Player 039 was placed 4th in the 37th Squid Game.

Trivia[]

Player 039 is the last surviving player who's name was unknown. His season 1 counterpart based on name would be Player 360. However, his season 1 counterpart based on placement would be Do Jung-soo (Player 017).
He is the only player aside from Kim Jun-hee's baby that was unnamed that made it to Sky Squid Game and the only finalist aside from the baby that is unnamed.
He is the only player who is a finalist without knowing his name known in Squid Game.

Player 039 was portrayed by Woo Jung-kook. He is credited as "도시락남", which translates to "lunchbox man," which his fellow contestants called him before beating him up in the final game.
