Park Tae-jun (박태준 Bag Tae-jun?), also known as Player 229, was a contestant in the 33rd Squid Game in 2020.

History[]

Park Tae-jun was born on October 11, 1972 in Busan to his father, Park Hee-jun. After graduating from Hwagok High School, he began working as a salesman at a clothing store named Kkamji. He held this job for another 24 years.

By 2020, Tae-jun was living in Seoul with his elderly father, and had ended up in a large amount of debt that he was unable to pay off. He decided to enter the Squid Games in order to win money and was picked up and sedated by Squid Game staff and taken to the island where the games take place. He can be seen leaving his bunk shortly after Seong Gi-hun walks by and passing him as he and Oh Il-nam converse. When Jang Deok-su started a fight with Kang Sae-byeok, Player 229 was one of many players that watched.

During the first game Red Light, Green Light, Player 229 was one of several players to panic and attempt to flee after the eliminations of Player 324 and 250. Despite this, he was never detected moving by the doll and was able to survive and later pass the game. Player 229 was sent home along with the rest of the surviving players when a narrow majority of them voted to terminate the games, and when the games resumed, he returned along with 186 other players.

He managed to survive the second game, Sugar Honeycombs. During the third game, he teamed up with Do Jung-soo and his team for the Tug of War and they were put against an unknown team. After Tug of war he Became good friends with Player 096. For the fourth game, he chose Player 096 as his partner, but it was revealed that the game was Marbles and that players would face their partners.

Fate[]

During the game, he lost to his friend; Player 096, causing him to get shot and eliminated from the games.

  • According to his player file, Park Tae-jun's resident registration number is 721011-1129884. He lives in Hwagok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul.

Mistakes[]

  • Park Tae-jun's player file identifies him as Player 288, though his actor is never seen wearing this number.
    • His player file also states that he attended high school between 1966 and 1969, though it also says he was born in 1972.
    • It also says that his father, Park Hee-jun, is 72 years old, despite his birthday being recorded as July 21, 1922 (which would make him 98, if born in 1922).
    • Park Tae-jun is noted to be 48 years old. Under the international age system, he would've been 47 in June 2020, and under the traditional Korean age system, he would've been 49.
  • Another 229 was seen panicking and running to the doors during Red Light, Green Light.
  • Another 229 was seen getting shot in Sugar Honeycombs.
  • Another 229, with brown hair, was seen before Red Light, Green Light, when they were about to take a picture.
  • Another 229 was seen attacking a player in Special Game
