Don't thank me. These two, they're actually the ones who saved me.
Park Gyeong-seok to Jang Geum-ja in "O X"
Park Gyeong-seok (박경석 Bag Gyeong-seog?), also known as Player 246, is a contestant in the Squid Game in 2024.
History[]
Gyeong-seok's only daughter, Park Na-yeon, was suffering from blood cancer and she joined him at his job as an artist at an amusement park. One day, she received a lollipop from Kang No-eul, another worker in her Bunny costume (who is also a deserter from North Korea), causing her to follow No-eul and leave her father. He eventually found her in the changing room with the costumed mascots, he apologizes to No-eul and takes Na-yeon outside.
The next day, Gyeong-seok is working, drawing a couple, when an ambulance passes in front of him, it turned out that Na-yeon had fainted while she was alone, but fortunately a good man found her and called 119, Gyeong-seok sees his daughter and immediately runs to her, the paramedic asks if he is with Na-yeon and Gyeong-seok tells him yes, that he is her father and asks the paramedics to take Na-yeon to Seohyeon University Hospital. But unbeknownst to Gyeong-seok, No-eul saw everything that happened and worries about him and Na-yeon, since they remind her of her and her daughter (whom she lost when she escaped from North Korea), No-eul sees that Gyeong-seok left Na-yeon's strawberry hat and picks it up.
At Seohyeon University Hospital, Gyeong-seok talks to a doctor who tells him that a new medication has just come out for patients like Na-yeon, but it wasn't covered by insurance, Gyeong-seok tells the doctor that he will somehow get the money and begs him to help Na-yeon, to which the doctor tells Gyeong-seok to make an appointment for the next day and he will explain the details. No-eul arrives at the hospital, checks on Na-yeon and shows concern for her well-being, returns her hat and leaves before anyone sees her, Gyeong-seok returns to Na-yeon and discovers that someone brought his daughter her hat. Gyeong-seok decides to join the Squid Games to pay for his daughter's treatment (becoming Player 246) and is taken to The Island.
Squid Game[]
Gyeong-seok wakes up in the Dormitory and discovers that there are also 454 other people (since Hwang In-ho had not yet entered the game as Player 001).
In the first game, Red Light, Green Light, Gyeong-seok manages to stay put after the players discover that losing will result in their death and follows the instructions of Seong Gi-hun (Player 456) to survive, while the shooters fire at the players who are detected moving to eliminate them, No-eul (who is Soldier 011) sees Gyeong-seok among the players, she recognizes him and realizes that he entered the game to pay for Na-yeon's treatment. Fortunately Gyeong-seok manages to reach the finish line and survive.
In the first vote, Gyeong-seok votes for "X" to end the game and leave, but the vote ends 182-183 and the game continues. Returning to her room, No-eul thinks of Gyeong-seok and gives herself the mission to protect him so he can return to Na-yeon.
In the second game, Six-Legged Pentathlon, Gyeong-seok teams up with Sim Jae-seok (Player 343), Player 197, Player 140 and Player 009, Gyeong-seok plays Gonggi, he passes the minigame and his team manages to reach the finish line in time, surviving.
In the second vote, Gyeong-seok again votes "X" to end the game, but the vote ends 116-139 and the game continues.
In the third game, Mingle, Gyeong-seok manages to survive the first round, in which the number is 10, in the second round the number is 4, Gyeong-seok teams up with Player 071 and they look for 2 more players, fortunately Lee Myung-gi (Player 333) and Player 154 join them and the 4 players manage to reach Room 04 just in time. When the players leave the rooms, No-eul turns to look at Gyeong-seok and is relieved to see that he is alive.
In the third round, where the number is 3, Gyeong-seok is left alone and looks for 2 players while Cho Hyun-ju (Player 120) and Kim Young-mi (Player 095) look for 1 more player, before time runs out, Gyeong-seok sees Hyun-ju and Young-mi, he joins the girls and the 3 manage to reach a room in time, saving themselves. When players leave the rooms, the trio meets up with Jang Geum-ja (Player 149) and the girls tell old woman that Gyeong-seok saved them and call him "A knight in shining armor", Geum-ja thanks Gyeong-seok and tells him that he is a prince, but Gyeong-seok tells the her that she doesn't have to thank him and that the girls saved him.
In the fourth round, in which the number is 6, Gyeong-seok teams up with Gi-hun, In-ho, and Park Jung-bae (Player 390), they search for 2 more players and team up with Players 328 and 350, surviving. In the fifth round, it's announced that the number is 2, so everyone grabs someone and runs, being In-ho with Jung-bae, Park Yong-sik (Player 007) with Geum-ja, Myung-gi with Kim Jun-hee (Player 222), Kang Dae-ho (Player 388) with Gi-hun and Gyeong-seok with Hyun-ju (who is depressed because Young-mi died in the previous round), Gyeong-seok grabs Hyun-ju, takes her with him to Room 32 and closes the door, saving them both.
Once the game is over, Gyeong-seok joins Gi-hun's team officially and sits with Hyun-ju, who mourns for Young-mi who died earlier in the fourth round of Mingle alongside Geum-ja and Young-sik. He then presses "X" for the third time, only ending the vote in a 50-50 tie. He agrees with the idea of rebellion when the vote is a tie, and hides under a bed with Hyun-ju. He then helps them overpower the guards once the riot ends, and listens to Hyun-ju's instructions on how to fire and load their guns, he privately asks her how she knows, and she admits to having been in special forces. They all leave the Dormitory together to begin the rebellion.
Fate[]
Please don't kill me, my daughter is very sick and...
Gyeong-seok before being shot in "Friend or Foe"
Gyeong-seok along with a group of "X" rebels were fighting the soldiers but they became very outnumbered, eventually running out of ammo. After Kang Dae-ho failed to return with supplies from the dormitory he had no choice but to surrender. After witnessing another surrendering player being shot, he begs them to spare them for his sick daughter. However, it doesn't work, as he gets shot by a soldier down in a lower area of his body, knocking him unconscious. In the teaser, a guard is seen scanning his unconscious body.
Personality[]
Gyeong-seok is a caring and determined father, who by most was merely noticed as meek and pitiful artist. He is willing to go to extreme lengths to provide for his daughter, even joining the Squid Game in 2024 in order to receive enough money to pay for his daughter's treatment. His determination is shown very clear in the games, as he passed the first three rounds, and even joined Seong Gi-hun's rebellion against the guards.
Trivia[]
- Some fans have speculated that Gyeong-seok isn't dead, because not only was it not precisely shown where the bullet hit him, but the guard's gun was also pointed lower and only one gunshot was heard. It's also possible it was Kang No-eul who pulled the trigger on him, considering the guard's smaller stature.[1]
- Park Gyu-young, the actor who portrayed Kang No-eul, uploaded on Instagram a picture of her and an unknown actor in Pink Guard costumes. The other actor is presumed to be Lee Jin-wook, who portrayed Park Gyeong-Seok, indicating that Gyeong-seok indeed survived the shot and disguised himself as a guard. The photo was quickly deleted from her Instagram, but there have been many news reports on it.[2]
- He is one of the few contestants who didn’t join the games due to being in heavy debt.
- Gyeong-seok, Lee Myung-gi and Kim Jun-hee are the only player's introduced to the audience before the game's. Ironically, in Season 1 the only player's shown as Seong Gi-hun, Kang Sae-byeok and Cho Sang-woo, the final 3 survivor's of Season 1.
- The 3 are also the player's focused on after everyone completes Red Light Green Light; which also happens with the major character's in Season 1.
Mistakes[]
