Don't thank me. These two, they're actually the ones who saved me.

Park Gyeong-seok to Jang Geum-ja in "O X"

Park Gyeong-seok (박경석 Bak Gyeong-seok?), also known as Player 246, is a contestant in the Squid Game in 2024.

History[]

Gyeong-seok's only daughter, Na-yeon, was suffering from blood cancer, and she joined him at his job as an artist at an amusement park. One day, she received a lollipop from Kang No-eul, another worker in her Bunny costume, causing her to follow No-eul and leave her father. He eventually found her in the changing room with the costumed mascots, he apologizes to No-eul and takes Na-yeon outside. The following day, whilst Gyeong-seok is working, Na-yeon collapses and is loaded into an ambulance. Gyeong-seok hears of this and runs towards the ambulance just in time before it leaves without him, accidentally leaving his daughter's strawberry hat behind. At the hospital, Gyeong-seok steps out of her hospital room, and upon returning discovers her holding the strawberry hat, as No-eul had secretly returned it. In order to pay for her treatment, he ended up joining the Squid Games.

The Game[]

Gyeong-seok successfully completes Red Light Green Light, unaware that No-eul is one of the pink guards executing the other players. He votes "X" to end the games. In 'Six-legged Pentanthlon', he successfully completed his part by playing Gonggi. Back in the dormitory, he votes "X" to end the games.

In 'Mingle', Gyeong-seok is unaware of No-eul standing by him, although she recognizes and watches him. He and Player 71 are saved by Player 154 and Lee Myung-gi when the number is 4. He finds himself without a group when the number is called as 3. Last second, he sees Cho Hyun-ju and Kim Young-mi looking for one extra player and saves both those two and himself by pulling them into a room. Hyun-ju and Young-mi are very thankful, as well as their allies Jang Geum-ja and Park Yong-sik, and they nickname him 'Prince Charming' despite his insistence they saved his life as well. The next number is six, and Gyeong-seok is sent with Seong Gi-hun and 001, and survives. The next and final number is two, and Gyeong-seok pairs with and saves Hyun-ju, who was despondent after Young-mi's death the prior round.

Once the game is over, Gyeong-seok joins Gi-hun's team officially and sits with Hyun-ju. He agrees with the idea of rebellion when the vote is a tie, and hides under a bed with Hyun-ju. He then helps them overpower the guards once the riot ends, and listens to Hyun-ju's instructions on how to fire and load their guns, he privately asks her how she knows, and she admits to having been in special forces. They all leave the Dormitory together to begin the rebellion.

Fate[]

Please don't kill me, my daughter is very sick and...

Gyeong-seok before being shot in "Friend or Foe"

Gyeong-seok along with a group of "X" rebels were fighting the soldiers but they became very outnumbered, eventually running out of ammo. After Kang Dae-ho failed to return with supplies from the dormitory he had no choice but to surrender. After witnessing another surrendering player being shot, he begs them to spare them for his sick daughter. However, it doesn't work, as he gets shot by a soldier. Due to the camera cutting to an angle where we can't see where he was shot, it is most likely his fate is unknown but he was most likely shot in an area that is not lethal.

Personality[]

Gyeong-seok is a caring and determined father, who by most was merely noticed as meek and pitiful artist. He is willing to go to extreme lengths to provide for his daughter, even joining the Squid Game in 2024 in order to receive enough money to pay for his daughter's treatment. His determination is shown very clear in the games, as he passed the first three rounds, and even joined Seong Gi-hun's rebellion against the guards.

Trivia[]

  • Some fans have speculated that Gyeong-seok isn't dead, because not only was it not precisely shown where the bullet hit him, but the guard's gun was also pointed lower and only one gunshot was heard. It's also possible it was Kang No-eul who pulled the trigger on him, considering the guard's smaller stature.[1]
    • Park Gyu-young, the actor who portrayed Kang No-eul, uploaded on Instagram a picture of her and an unknown actor in Pink Guard costumes. The other actor is presumed to be Lee Jin-wook, who portrayed Park Gyeong-Seok, indicating that Gyeong-seok indeed survived the shot and disguised himself as a guard. The photo was quickly deleted from her Instagram, but there have been many news reports on it.[2]
  • He is one of the few contestants who didn’t join the games due to being in heavy debt.
  • Gyeong-seok, Lee Myung-gi and Kim Jun-hee are the only player's introduced to the audience before the game's. Ironically, in season 1 the only player's shown as Seong Gi-hun, Kang Sae-byeok and Cho Sang-woo, the final 3 survivor's of season 1.
    • The 3 are also the player's focused on after everyone completes Red Light Green Light; which also happens with the major character's in season 1.
