The very first time I went to see you, you were lying in your bed in that dusty old hospital, just staring up at the ceiling like a zombie. I couldn't believe you killed the team pursuing you with one rifle and got past the fences at the Demarcation Line without any kind of help at all. I saw you in that bed and felt sorry for you. So I decided to give you a chance to start over.
The Commanding Officer to Kang No-eul in "Six Legs"

Masked Officer possibly fighting with Kang No-eul in Season 3.
The Masked Officer (부대장 Budaejang) is the right-hand man to The Front Man during the 2024 Squid Game. He is shown to supervise and command the Guards, and carries out many similar duties as In-ho did during the 33rd Squid Game.
The Officer can be identified by a black jumpsuit with a hood, a pink belt and a mask with a square on it.
History[]
2020[]
The Officer was (presumably) one of the Managers in 2020 during the 33rd Squid Game. He told Kang No-eul, "Last time, we had a player do the surgeries, in exchange for information about the games they were going to play." the player mentioned by him being Byeong-gi from the 33rd Squid Game. This conversation implies that The Officer was somehow involved in the Games during 2020. However, it is not yet confirmed whether he was already an Officer at that time or if he was promoted later for some unknown reason.
2024[]
The Officer is employed during the 2024 Squid Game and carries out many of duties displayed by the Front Man during the games in 2020, mainly supervising and commanding the other guards. His hiring date is unknown nor who is behind the mask.

The Officer oversees and monitors the screens closely during the rebellion of the players.
He serves as the acting senior-most individual in charge of the games after the first game is concluded, whilst the Front Man is covertly playing the game in order to supervise Gi-hun.
He is a part of the underground organ harvesting operation and is frustrated when No-eul eliminates a player during red light green light that was meant to be kept alive. He has a discussion with No-eul where he advises her to not interrupt their operation again.
During the player revolt, he orders many soldiers to fight the players and stop them from reaching the control room, as well as covertly cooperating with the Front Man to organize his safe return into the control room to emerge as the Front Man to confront Gi-hun.
Personality[]

The Officer orders the retreat of the remaining guards inside the main player room.
The Officer is shown to be stern and strict, and is very passionate about the work done by the Guards being done to the best of their ability. He drops the stern personality during the revolution, where he is shown to be more panicked and paranoid due to the situation, but he does not cease his work and continues to command the guards regardless.
With his stern personality and strictness, he does participate in the organ harvesting operation and cares greatly about the organization and process of it. It is unknown what his motive is for supporting the operation or if the Front Man is fully aware of the operation. As seen in Season 1, the Front Man does not care whether or not his personnel harvest organs, as he only cares about the equality of the game. It is unknown if The Officer cares as much about the equality of the game as much as the Front Man.
Behind the scenes[]
The Officer is portrayed by Park Hee-soon. He is credited on IMDb as "Commanding Officer", and as "The Instructor" and "Manager Instructor" elsewhere.
