We can't just let them attack. Our side's the one with a lot of women and old folks. If we wait for them, we're gonna lose. I say we ambush them first. That's the only way to win.

Kwon Byeong-su to Seong Gi-hun's team in "Friend or Foe"

Kwon Byeong-su (권병수 Gwon Byeong-su?), also known as Player 047, was a contestant of the Squid Game in 2024. He participated in Gi-hun's revolt.

History[]

The specific reason he joined the games is unknown. Off-screen, Byeong-su successfully completed Red Light, Green Light. In the first vote, Byeong-su voted for "X".

In Six Legged-Pentathlon, he formed a team with Players 308, 073, 328 and 401. After the eliminations of the Teams 1 and 2, Byeong-su stood up and screamed that was why they had to leave and that they would all die for all those who voted for "O". A player that closely resembles him was shown playing Ddakji, though his number was not clearly visible. Byeong-su survived the second game. After that, he voted for "X" for the second time.

When the third vote was held after Mingle, Byeong-su voted for "X" for third time; the vote ended up in a tie, with 50 players voting for "X" and 50 players voting for "O".

Shortly after the vote, a confrontation between the Team X and Team O started in the bathroom, quickly escalating into a fight. Byeong-su was seen fighting other players in the background and survived the event.

After the fight, the survivors came back to the Dormitory. Nam-gyu (Player 124) started lying and stated that Team X tried to kill Team O and mentioned the death of Thanos (Player 230), who was his friend. But Byeong-su revealed that the coward of Nam-gyu was lying and that Team O was the one who started the fight against Team X to win the next day's vote. Both teams started blaming each other for starting the fight until Im Jeong-dae (Player 100) stopped them and asked which team had more people, resulting in everyone in the "O" team to organize around him and be counted by Jeong-dae. Seeing that, Byeong-su did the same, raising his hand up and asking everyone from the "X" team to gather around to be counted.

After counting, Byeong-su found out that Team X had 48 players, 1 more that Team O. Upon this, Park Jung-bae (Player 390) says that if they do not change their minds, they will win by 1 vote during the next vote. Byeong-su chips in and tries to convince the "X" team players to not change their votes and leave the games after the next vote.

A few minutes before lights out, some players including Byeong-su of the "X" team gathered. Gi-hun claimed that members from the other team would try to kill members of the "X" team, because if they did, they would be able to increase the prize money and win the vote. Upon being asked what to do, Young-il suggested attacking the "O" players first. Byeong-su agreed with him, saying that since the "X" team has more women and elderly on their side, they would be at a disadvantage if they were attacked. Attacking the "O" team first would give them a better chance. However, Gi-hun convinced them to not kill, as he believes that is what the Front Man would want the players to do. He tells them not get involved in the fight, not even to protect others, and tells them his plan to attack the soldiers whilst they were dealing with the dead bodies from the fight, to steal their guns and ammo and use these to shoot down as many of the Game's staff as possible. Jung-Bae, Hyun-ju, Young-il and a few other players, including Byeong-su, decide to found a team and join the rebellion.

After successfully attacking the soldiers and stealing their guns and ammo, Byeong-su gets furious and attempts to use the gun to kill players from the "O" team. He claims that they are inhumane, and that they are "goddamn vermin blinded by money". Gi-hun stops him and says that if he kills them, he would be no different from the guards. Hearing this, Byeong-su points his gun away in frustration.

During the rebellion, Byeong-su manages to kill multiple guards. Seeing that Kang Dae-ho was shooting his gun recklessly, he advises against his actions and as Dae-ho would waste his ammo, and throws him a magazine.

Fate[]

In-ho betrays and shoots Byeong-su in the back.

Later, after Gi-hun and Jung-bae find their way to the control rooms, Hyun-ju advises Young-il to collect the magazines from the dead soldiers along the path leading to the control room. Young-il brings Byeong-su and Player 015 after the two volunteered to go with him. Along the way, while Player 015 and Byeong-su were both standing in front of Young-il flanking his left and right, Byeong-su was betrayed and was shot in the back by Young-il, who was actually Hwang In-ho. Player 015 is shocked to see his ally get shot, but In-ho shoots him in the chest before he could do anything about it. His body was most likely put in a coffin by the managers and given to the workers to incinerate after the revolt.

Personality[]

Byeong-su is portrayed as a brave and trustworthy person and usually stands up for Team X against Team O. He values life over money as he thinks that Team O is heartless and blinded by money. Despite him presumably being in heavy debt, he still chooses not to be blinded by money and fights for what is morally right.
