An unnamed woman was the wife of Hwang In-ho prior to his participation, and victory, in the 28th Squid Game. She was likely the main reason why he chose to compete in the first place, which set in motion many key events in relation to In-ho eventually becoming the Front Man.

History[]

Very little is known about In-ho's wife, apart from that the two were married before 2015. At some point she was diagnosed with acute liver cirrhosis, and while the doctors were doing tests on her it was also discovered that she was pregnant. Despite medical advice to get an abortion, she decided to risk her life and keep the pregnancy. However, a liver transplant donor was needed in order to save her which was expensive, so her husband had no choice but to take out loans from criminals in order to pay for it. Since In-ho was a police officer at the time, this was mistaken for bribery by his superiors, which immediately got him fired from the job. In-ho was left with no other options, so decided to join the 28th Squid Game in 2015.

In-ho would later go on to win these games, along with the 45.6 billion won prize money, but by this time it was too late as his wife and unborn child were already dead and he could not use the money to save them. Feeling as if no hope was left in his old life, he decided to join Oh Il-nam and assume the position of the Front Man, the mysterious masked overseer of the Games.

In-ho's brother Hwang Jun-ho came to visit her grave in 2024 on the anniversary of her death. However, since In-ho was no longer in contact with his family after becoming the Front Man, he did not visit her.

Trivia[]

  • Interestingly, Hwang In-ho's player file from the 28th Squid Game, shown in "Gganbu", does not mention her at all.
