The Heckler & Koch MP5 is a submachine gun originally developed in Germany in 1966. It is one of the most widely used guns of its type in the world. The MP5 is the primary weapon used by soldiers in the Squid Game, and the models employed contain select fire capabilities.
The MP5 was first used to eliminate players at the end of Sugar Honeycombs in the 33rd Squid Game, where soldiers mowed down all of the players that had run out of time in the game. In a confrontation, a soldier attempted and failed to use his MP5 to kill Byeong-gi, who was later killed by an unrelated soldier with the same weapon. In Marbles, a soldier used the gun to repeatedly shoot a player who had lost.
In the Squid Game competition in 2024, the MP5A3 and MP5A5 were both used. Soldiers killed losing players in Six-Legged Pentathlon by mowing them down with the MP5, and Mingle with primarily semiautomatic shots. During a riot in the night, the players ambushed guards and commandeered the guns for themselves, beginning a full-scale revolt against the organizers of Squid Games in which a gun battle was fought using them.
