Squid Game Wiki

The Dormitory is a location in Squid Game. It is where the players stay between the Games. It is also known as The Lobby or The Bedroom. It was destroyed on November 6, 2024.

General[]

The Dormitory is a rectangular room with metal-framed bunk beds lining the walls. Its basic architecture and monotone walls reflect its sterile nature. Aside from the beds, there is a large screen on the wall that displays the number of contestants remaining as well as the prize money.

A large clear acrylic piggy bank is periodically lowered from the roof of the dormitory as a display piece, accompanied by yellow theatre lights and upbeat chiptune arcade game-like music. It contains the winnings of the 33rd Squid Game in the form of stacks of banknotes. There also seems to be fluorescent lights attached on the black parts of the walls.

History[]

Players are first introduced to the dormitory in Episode 1 where they wake up, confused and unfamiliar with their surroundings and environment.

In 2020, the Special Game happened here on the night of the second game. When everyone is asleep, Jang Deok-su sneaks to Player 198's bed and brutally stabs her with his broken bottle, thus starting the game.

In 2024, the dormitory is split into two sides: players who voted to stay, and players who voted to leave. The Special Game happened here on the night of the third game. While the players who voted to leave were asleep, the players who voted to stay sneak to the other side of the room and ambush them, leading to a fight between the two sides; resulting to multiple deaths of players who voted to leave.

Trivia[]

  • During the 33rd Squid Game, the illustrations on the walls of the dormitory are actually abstract depictions of each game.
    • Each time a player dies, the beds will be removed and reduced, and illustrations on the walls will become visible.
  • During the 37th Squid Game, there are no depictions of the six games, rather there are other drawings.
    • There's a message on the walls that says "HODIE MIHI, CRAS TIBI", which is Latin for "Today it is my turn, tomorrow it is yours".
    • One side of the dormitory walls has what looks like a chessboard that could represent the graveyard of players who died in the games.
    • On the top of the wall, there are people swinging on monkey bars. While this isn't a game that's actually played, it could represent the struggles the players go through during all of these games they play.
    • The director also confirmed that these are not the latter three games, stating that the illustrations had nothing to do with them.

Mistakes[]

  • The dormitory has 466 beds, but only 456 people participate in the squid game, which means that there are 10 extra beds.
