I kind of owe this to Sae-byeok after all. I'll do everything I can to try and make it happen.

The broker to Seong Gi-hun in "Halloween Party"

This unnamed man is a broker working in Seoul, South Korea.

Personality[]

In season 1, he was depicted as quite a greedy, selfish person, who demanded Sae-byeok a large amount of money to help her reconnect with her mother. His such attitude drives Sae-byeok mad and even causes her to threaten him. While he works, he drinks tea without serving any to his guests.

However, in season 2, his personality is further explained, revealing that he is actually a rather decent person. He displays sympathy towards No-eul's situation, while giving her realistic advice. He even refuses to receive her money on his ethical basis.

History[]

Little is known about his early life prior to becoming a broker, but he later met Kang Sae-byeok when he started working with her to free her mother from North Korea.

Sae-byeok visited him in 2020 to discuss on how to let her mother escape from North Korea. He tells Sae-byeok that she would have to get 40 million won in order to at least get her mother to China. Furious, Sae-byeok splashes him with hot tea and threatens him with a knife at his neck. After scolding the broker, Sae-byeok leaves but then the broker realizes that she quickly cut through his jacket and stole money from him.

In 2024, he helps Seong Gi-hun with freeing Sae-byeok's mother from North Korea. He shows him a photo of her and says she was recently released from a concentration camp in Hamgyong. When Gi-hun asks about her health, the Broker replies there was a tuberculosis outbreak in the camp and she didn't receive quality treatment, so she may have difficulties to move around. He says he owes one to Sae-byeok and will bring her mother no matter what as soon as she recovers.

He's also been helping Kang No-eul to free her daughter from North Korea to no avail. When she arrives to his office, he isn't pleased to see her. He refuses the money she attempts to give him and tells her to forget about her daughter, because there's no way she could have survived in North Korea as a baby without her parents.

Behind the scenes[]

He was portrayed by Choi Jae-sup.
