Dad, you can be in all of the fights that you want, but don't get hurt too bad.

Ga-yeong to her father in "Red Light, Green Light"

Seong Ga-yeong (성가영 Seong Ga-yeong?) is the daughter of Seong Gi-hun and Kang Eun-ji. She was at the center of the dispute between her parents. Her mother took her away from her father after he went into debt.

History[]

Ga-yeong was born on June 8, 2011, to her mother who had collapsed in labor before taking herself to the hospital where Ga-yeong was born. Albeit without the presence of her deadbeat spouse, Seong Gi-hun, who was holding up in Dragon Motors during a violent strike around that time.

By 2017 (three years before Gi-hun entered the Squid Game), her parents settled for divorce and she was taken under the care of her mother and could visit her biological father.

After an unknown amount of time, her mother then remarried to Ga-yeong's stepfather who provides for them and has a stepbrother living with her.

Personality[]

Ga-yeong is empathetic and caring, much like her father. She worries about her biological father's well-being, concerned about his tendencies to get into fights, gambling addiction, his smoking habits. She seems to care a lot about her family, and her family seemingly tries to not make her aware of any strife amongst them. She makes it her effort to be grateful and humble, especially when her birthday doesn't go as planned she is still happy to spend time with her father.

Trivia[]

  • During a brief flash of Gi-hun's profile, her birthday is shown to be June 9 instead of June 8. This is most likely a mistake on the editors' parts.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Seong Ga-yeong is portrayed by Jo A-in.
